Welcome and Introduction

Call to Worship

PRAISE: CH3 34 – revised version

Lord of all being, throned afar, your glory flames from sun and star;

centre and soul of every sphere, yet to each loving heart how near

Sun of our life, your quickening ray sheds on our path the glow of day;

star of our hope, your softened light cheers the long watches of the night

Our midnight is your smile withdrawn, our noontide is your gracious dawn,

our rainbow arch your mercy’s sign; all are your gifts save clouds of sin

Lord of all life, below, above, whose light is truth, whose warmth is love,

before your ever-blazing throne we ask no lustre of our own

Grant us your freedom, strong and true, light up our hearts to burn for you,

till all your living altars claim one holy light, one heavenly flame O W Holmes/d1894/alt

Opening Prayer, Lord’s Prayer

First Talk

PRAISE: CH4 600

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove

Teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour’s love

You spoke to us, long, long ago, gave us the written word
We read it still, needing its truth, through it God’s voice is heard

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove

Teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour’s love

Without your help we fail our Lord, we cannot live his way

We need your power, we need your strength following Christ each day

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove

Teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour’s love

 M Old/1971/Scripture Union

Reading: Job 11:7 – 20

Intercessions

Reading: Ephesians 3:14 – 21

PRAISE: CMP 247

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts, to me

My soul is longing and fainting the courts of the Lord to see

My heart and flesh, they are singing for joy to the living God

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts to me

Even the sparrow finds a home where it can settle down

And the swallow, she can build a nest where she may lay her young

within the courts of the Lord of hosts, my King, my Lord and my God

And happy are those who are dwelling where the song of praise is sung

And I’d rather be a door-keeper and only stay a day

than live the life of a sinner and have to stay away

2 / 2

For the Lord is shining as the sun, and the Lord, he’s like a shield

And no good thing does he withhold from those who walk his way

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts, to me

My soul is longing and fainting the courts of the Lord to see

My heart and flesh, they are singing for joy to the living God

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts to me    Psalm 84

Second Talk

Prayer

PRAISE:  CH3 473 – revised version

Lord in love and perfect wisdom times and seasons you arrange,

working out your changeless purpose in a world of ceaseless change

You have formed our ancient nation, guiding it through all the days,

to unfold in it your purpose to your glory and your praise

To our shores, remote, benighted, barrier of the western waves,

tidings of good news you sent us, tidings of the Cross that saves

Saints and heroes strove and suffered here your gospel to proclaim

We, the heirs of their endeavour, tell the honour of their name

Still withstanding change and challenge, your eternal will remains

Still your holy Church continues; valiant witness it maintains

Grant us vision, Lord, and courage to fulfil your work begun

in the Church, and in the nation; King of Kings, your will be done!  T Rees/d1939/altered AV

Benediction
